*show! Puts Out Great First Show
By Christopher Michael

April 9 – April 22, 2002

Dennis Dutzi’s 60s Gloss style is combining Pop Art and photorealism, places Barbie into settings like a tongue'n-cheek ad for bottled water.

These are disturbing images of every little girl’s favorite doll, instead she’s placed in unconventional and adult settings. show! gallery has an exclusive on Dutzi’s Barbie series; the works range in size from fairly small to quite large.

Known currently for his masterful portraits of the wealthy and famous, Dutzi’s style captures the upbeat lifestyle and dun-drenched aesthetic of Southern California. He combines a hard edged technique with a carefully blended technique to portray his subjects.

Almost always the best is bust-length portraiture and Dutzi’s trademark – the addition of eyeglasses that serve to both hide and reveal the sitter.
